Curtain installation: technical considerations
Studio Blinds is studious about these things.
Going far beyond any cookie cutter approach to installing curtains, we consider a comprehensive list of technical needs to make sure all installations perform exactly to aesthetic, environmental and quality requirements.
Accurate width & drop
How much ‘bleed’ there will be across the window’s frame, and how far past the bottom of the frame or how close to the floor the curtain will be.
We:
Measure the width of the track or rod from end to end (rather than just the window recess) for correct fabric width.
For drop: take measurements at left, middle and right (or top, middle, bottom) and use the shortest to allow for uneven floors/ceilings.
Decide where the bottom of the curtain finishes (just above the floor, where it ‘kisses’ the floor, or ‘puddles’) and measure accordingly.
Curtain fullness and stacking
Fullness is how ‘gathered’ the fabric is when closed; stacking is the width of the curtain pile when open.
We:
Consider that fullness varies with heading style; many guides suggest 1.5-2X the track width for standard pleated curtains.
Consider stack so that when open, the window/glass in not overly blocked. for example, some guides use 30% of track width for stack when side-stacking.
Widow type
The size, orientation, and construction technique (form) of the window is extremely important to us. A great result for your window furnishing install outcome hinges on it.
We:
Consider if bay windows or curved tracks require special measuring of each section and possibly custom-made tracks.
Sliding doors: consider handle clearance, stacking width and track length needed to allow for door movement.
Recessed windows: consider and may allow for inside-mounting, but may compromise full coverage; outside mount may be better for light control.
